Proboscidea is the group of mammals defined by the trunk — a fusion of nose and upper lip strong enough to uproot a tree and precise enough to pick up a single leaf. Today only the elephants remain, three species spread across Africa and Asia, but the group once included mammoths and mastodons across most of the world. They are the largest land animals alive, with tusks that are really overgrown incisors and thick, deeply wrinkled hide. Models in this group suit large printed display pieces, savanna and safari environments in games, and megafauna work in documentary, film and museum visualisation.
